If you have a great one to add, post it in the comments!
Job boards, communities and scholarships?
Most of these resources will provide at least one of these services.
Probablemente conozca la bolsa de trabajo: habrá una lista de trabajos y podrá postularse para ellos. Simple!
The communities around these job boards are also invaluable. You will find very active Slack, Whatsapp or Discord communities where people will share:
– online job fairs where you can meet the companies that are hiring
– hackathons
– local and online events
– reading recommendations to keep you informed
– more jobs or short-term jobs
– zoom workshops
– open source projects
– experiences to get a job in the climate
– and much more…
Participate to be the first to hear about new jobs and be informed when you get your first interview.
Most require you to fill out a short form to explain why you are joining. Once you’re in, you’ll find me online, so feel free to search for a “Thomas Harvey” and say “hello” 👋
Scholarships
Some of these communities offer “scholarships” or “accelerators” where they offer courses (for a price) to help you move toward a climate career.
I do not receive affiliate payments for these. I want to mention them so you can decide if and when to use them for yourself.
Both Terra.do and ClimateBase offer a very high caliber program with established industry contacts and both currently have applications open for scholarships, until February 23, 2024, so if you are interested, don’t delay.
Where do I click?
Here are my favorites, plus one I’ve never used. Dive in and good luck! We need you here building important solutions!
Climatic basis
https://climatebase.org
A busy job board where you can search by focus and location.
If you have a specific interest in climate (agriculture, electricity, carbon capture), the Climatebase job board will help you filter by your interest and location.
It also has a very active and growing community – here’s a direct link to sign up.
Terra.do
https://www.terra.do
A community focused on learning.
I have heard wonderful things about your accelerator course from former students, some of whom I have hired.
Their focus on providing you with knowledge will ensure that you are confident when you go into that job interview.
Work on the climate
A thriving community full of events.
WoCl (yip, you must know the acronym) has been a driving force in making it easier to find climate employment. Their strength is really in the events and relaxed community they organize.
You’ll find all of WoCl’s resources to be really welcoming, and the fact that they and Terra.do work so closely is testament to the collaborative and welcoming values they uphold. Who cares who makes the world a better place, as long as it gets better!
Travelers
Super focused on community and growing together.
If you’re interested in networking with climate-related people, this is the place for you. It’s open to people at all stages of their career, so you really get exposure to a broad spectrum of engineers, designers, investors, managers and executives.
This is not a message board where you can slack off, you will be pushed to grow your network. Their activities are usually outdoors, in nature, so go out and breathe in that fresh air that you are fighting to save.
