Tips to Help Yourself Stand Out During a Tech Job Search

I recently reviewed a bunch of applications for some roles I had open. As a hiring manager, I want to mention a few simple things that can set you apart in your search. These are all based on patterns I saw; Much more than one candidate was doing these things.

First of all: technology hiring doesn’t work.

You are not alone. I think this too, as do many hiring managers. We fix it where we can. Some of this advice is silly – the result of bad systems and outdated practices – and I wish a lot of it wasn’t necessary.

I support all candidates being successful. I hope all candidates know that hiring managers want to find a good fit. These tips are just that: tips for navigating a difficult system, from my perspective as a hiring manager in my current context. Should you have to do them? No. Will they help? I hope so.
